Occlusive Coronary Atherosclerosis

Coronary atherosclerosis is the deposition of plaques within walls of coronary arteries. The plaque occludes the coronary artery by which blood flow to the heart is stopped, this leads to heart attack.
Diagnosis is done by Coronary reserve flow (CFR), serum makers and by imaging studies like echocardiography, computed topography, coronary angiography.Risk factors are cigarette smoking, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, sedentary life style.
Plaques in coronary arteries grow eventually and lead to angina pectoris which can be stable or unstable, acute coronary syndrome. Medications like statins and healthy life style can reduce the risk of coronary atherosclerosis.
